Simon Higgs

Simon joined LLW in October 2005 as an Associate Solicitor. He was recruited to specifically deal with a Case Load comprising complex and frequently high value Personal Injury and CICA claims. These included a number of high profile multi party actions. For example, he successfully concluded in 2006 the long running Cardiff PI case arising out of a murder of one Inmate by another leaving 6 Staff who had dealt with this incident suffering from major psychological trauma. He also established liability for 6 Nurses in a claim against Rampton Hospital arising from a serious Patient assault. The initial Judgement in favour of the Staff was appealed by the Defendants and the Court of Appeal’s Judgment in late 2006, dismissing the Appeal, provides helpful clarification of the Law in this area.

Following a reorganisation of the Union Law Department he was in May 2006 appointed Leader of the Team dealing with Personal Injury Claims and CICA Applications for POA Members.

He qualified as a Solicitor in 1994. After initially specialising in Family Law he has specialised in Personal Injury work since 1996, almost exclusively on behalf of Claimants. This previous experience includes a 6 year period working for a niche Trade Union Practice in Manchester until March 2004.

He lives in West Kirby with his wife and two young children. Despite at the end of last season relinquishing his season ticket he continues to support Manchester United, much to Frank’s annoyance. Other activities he enjoys in his spare time include walking, travelling and golf.
